Drawing outdoors

Drawing outdoors is exciting and valuable. Selecting subjects, collecting information and impressions, filling sketchbooks with experiences and observations- all this helps your study of reality, which is the heart of drawing. Make sure you will be comfortable. You may sit or stand for long periods, so take warm clothing, or, in the heat, wear a hat or perch in the shade. Take along a shoulder bag to hold your favourite pencils, pens, ink and sketchbook. Don’t give room to untried tools. In a wind, secure your paper firmly to a board. Keep alert for colourful atmosphere, interesting characters or crowds; sketch your general impressions and all intriguing details.
